Allen’s Corner will have a strong sense of community – supported by inclusive activities and gathering spaces, safe and sustainable transportation access, and a vibrant sense of place.
Friends of Allen’s Corner is an all-volunteer effort, working to build community and create a safe and welcoming neighborhood center at Allen’s Corner in Portland, Maine.
Allen’s Corner is the crossroads of two of Portland’s major corridors – Washington Avenue and Allen Avenue. It is the gateway for the commercial center of the North Deering neighborhood. On the outer edge of the City of Portland, Allen’s Corner was still a rural crossroads community at the start of the 1900s.
Friends of Allen’s Corner defines our focus geography as the area within 3/4 of a mile of Allen’s Corner. This area includes Deering Grange, Northgate Plaza, Northport Business Park, and three neighborhood schools.
Friends of Allen’s Corner was formed in 2022 by a small group of neighbors who wanted to build connections between the people and places.
In 2024 we hosted a presentation on the history of Allen’s Corner. Click below to watch a recording.
